Why can't I call targets?
This is probably going to see a bit confusing, so I will try to explain it as best as I can.
I cannot call targets in what I consider the "regular way". (Holding CTRL and pressing SPACEBAR.) I think I know the reason why, though, but have no solution for it. That's where you friendly people come in! When I press enter to type something into chat, there is an upper-case 'A' to the left: I was wondering, "What in the world is this from?" Recently, this laptop had two HDDs replaced due to them going bad a few months after purchasing the laptop. The manufacturer (ASUS) blamed themselves, for some type of faulty software or something similar. Anyway! I noticed this: The Language Bar is in Region Settings of Windows 7. I removed the keyboard settings of CH Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan) but it never went away. I know it's a Microsoft-related issue but I can't see paying $50 for one phonecall to them. (Their support site is expensive!) Also, it keeps switching to Chinese. I can't get rid of it, and would rather leave the computer registry alone. The settings seem to be whenever I press CTRL and SPACEBAR, the 'A' reappears after I'm able to get rid of it from just fiddling around. (I don't remember how I get rid of it - lol. I'd rather get rid of it more permanently than having to not press CTRL. The 'A' appears as 'CHI' in other games, like Steam games such as L4D2 and CSS.) I sincerely apologize if it seems confusing, but there's really no way to explain it. I'll add whatever information you need, since I really don't know what to put. Thank you so much in advance. |

In the "Text Services and Input Languages" box where you removed the Chinese keyboard settings (Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Keyboards and Languages -> Change Keyboards...) , click on the "Advanced Key Settings" and remove "To Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan) Left Ctrl+Shift" and/or "Between input languages" which is set to LeftAlt+Shift by default.

@Snograt - I actually tried every setting earlier. Just for sake of your post, I tried again. Now there's a Chinese symbol in place of the 'A'. I still can't call targets.
Thank you so much for your post, though. |

Heh, one down, one to go ^__^
Mini Kae - drat, was sure that would work. Let's try from GW itself: F11, "Control" tab. You'll see that there is a key used to toggle between English and the system default language (by default, RCtrl or the IME key 2 on Asian keyboards.) This might be your problem, but I would hope that English is your system default...

@cosyfiep - I actually set it to default as soon as I tested my normal key set-up. Still not working. It has to be Window's Language Bar settings, or something ... Space works to follow or attack, CTRL works to call out if I hold it down and double-click.

Sometimes maybe you will need to restart for the change to take effect. And make sure yours is the correct CTRL in GW binding. Sometimes it could be that too. Besides that, I can't think of much. A friend changed my laptop language to chinese to look for something and I had to switch it back to english. When I did, GW's call target also became that way for me but with a reboot it worked fine again.

@Kojima - Yeah, I restarted a couple of times. First restart actually fixed it...for about 5 minutes. Then it seemed to revert everything back. Second restart did nothing. It's really odd.

How about disabling the Language Bar entirely!?
See if it being active is somehow cause of the problem. Not sure it was mentioned, but with the Language Bar active maybe some key combo does somthing yes. |

I did think about disabling the language bar, but the option is to hide it, rather than disable it.
Hmm, maybe give it a shot anyway - maybe "hide" does mean "disable" in Microsoftese...

@Masmar - Unfortunately, it didn't.
@Quaker - I've closed/shut down/disabled any type of third-party software (such as MSN and internet browsers), and still no luck.. @dagrdagaz - Like Snograt mentioned, there's an option to hide, but no way to disable it, short of probably going into registry or host files and removing it completely, somehow, if that's even possible...But no way am I doing that! >.< @Snograt - Hehe, that's what I thought and hoped..but it doesn't. Even when I make it hide itself, 20 minutes later it actually pops back up. It's so weird. @Chthon - There are only four options. Ctrl+Shift, LeftAlt+Shift, Grave Accent (`) and Not Assigned. I've tried all four, with no avail..What gets me is that CTRL and SPACEBAR trigger it, and there's no option for that. As of yesterday I have a ticket into Guild Wars Support, linking them to this forum thread. I'm still going to check back here daily, though. Off-topic, but I'd like to sincerely thank everyone that has replied. Thank you all...hopefully my odd issue will have a solution soon, and anyone else who stumbles across an issue with their game like this might be helped... |

Losing the ctrl+spacebar was slightly annoying, but seems to be unavoidable as long as you need to type in multiple languages in other programs. |
